KOLKATA: BJP leaders have accused Trinamool Congress workers of sexually assaulting a woman candidate in last week's panchayat elections in West Bengal. Explaining the incident, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee broke down in tears.
'Manipur incident is very sad. But in South Panchala, Bengal, a woman worker of the BJP was stripped naked. Is it less than the Manipur incident?' West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said that the difference with the incident in Manipur is that Mamata Banerjee's police did not allow them to film the video.
Hooghly MP Locket Chatterjee burst into tears while speaking on the incident. She said that attention should be given to the girls of Bengal too. According to the allegation on July 8, on election day, a woman activist in Panchala was asked to strip and the perpetrators touched her private parts. On July 11, a woman candidate was also assaulted in Domjur. They had complained to the police and there is no video of the incident as they had a gun in their hand. Locket Chatterjee also asked if people should react only when the video goes viral.
Another complaint filed by a woman candidate of BJP, in Howrah’s Domjur… She was groped and assaulted, by TMC candidate and his agents, inside the counting center on 11th Jul 2023. Mamata Banerjee’s police is still to file an FIR. These are not isolated instances of crimes… pic.twitter.com/EL27FlYY6j
