KOCHI: The High Court has accepted the appeal filed by Conman Monson Mavunkal asking to overturn the earlier trial court judgment in the POCSO case. The HC also ordered to issue a notice to the government at the earliest. Justice P B Suresh Kumar and Justice C S Sudha comprising the division bench accepted Monson’s appeal. In the appeal, Monson, who was arrested in the antiquity fraud case plead with the court to suspend the sentence and provide bail for him.

On June 17, the Ernakulam POCSO Court found Monson guilty of impregnating his home maid's daughter and later forcing her into abortion. According to the court, Monson took advantage of the victim's financial strait and forced her to undergo an abortion. The court then denied mercy for the accused and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment.
