NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud against misuse of protocol facilities by some High Court judges. A letter was sent to all the Chief Justices of High Courts stating that they should not cause trouble to others and invite criticism against the judiciary. Allahabad High Court Judge Gautam Choudhary had sought an explanation from the railway authorities, alleging that his demands were not met during his train journey. The intervention of the Chief Justice is in the context of the controversial action.
The letter also stated that the High Court judge will not have the power to take disciplinary action against the railway officials, even if the name is not specified.
The privileges of being a judge should not be seen as an opportunity to display power. These facilities should not be used in a way that shows that these are special rights that are distinct from the community. Whether sitting or not, there must be an act of maintaining the credibility of the judiciary. The letter also pointed out that the community should maintain faith in the judges.
High Court judge said that he did not receive consideration
The controversial letter was sent by the protocol registrar of the Allahabad High Court to the general manager of the North Central Railway at Prayagraj on July 14. The complaint was that Judge Gautam Choudhary was not paid much attention when he was traveling with his wife in First class AC coach of Purushottam Express from New Delhi to Prayagraj on 8th July. An explanation was sought for the failure to provide food. As the letter went viral on social media, there was a lot of criticism against the judge from the community.
