NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has said that reservation should not be denied to Scheduled Caste students on the grounds that they did not have their caste certificate while applying for the NEET exam. The bench headed by Justice Ravindra Bhatt said that students belonging to Scheduled Caste should be given appropriate opportunity in such a situation. He added that the certificate should be seen only as evidence. The court ordered to send a notice to the National Testing Agency and decided to consider the petition again after two weeks.

The Supreme Court was considering a petition filed by a student who had to apply under the general category because he did not have a caste certificate. It was alleged in the petition that although the certificate was produced later, ST reservation was not given.
