THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Railways have opened counters that provide food at low cost for general ticket passengers. Extension counters have been opened at 64 stations across the country. The counter is only at Thiruvananthapuram station in Kerala. This is on an experimental basis. Depending on its success, counters will be opened at other stations in a phased manner within six months.

The prices for the food items are as follows: 20 rupees for Puri, Baji and Pickle Kit, and 50 rupees for any of the meal options such as Cholabatura, Pav Baji, and Masala Dosa in the snack meal category. Additionally, you can get 200 ml water for 3 rupees. The counters will be managed by IRCTC on the platforms. In Southern Railway, apart from Thiruvananthapuram, there are counters at Mayiladumthura, Virudhunagar, Nagercoil, Mangalore, Salem and Erode stations.
