MUVATTUPUZHA: Court sentenced village officer to five years imprisonment in a bribery case. The sentence was passed by Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court. Chathurangapara village officer Prabhakaran Nair was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rs 65,000. The incident related to the punishment took place in September 2009. Prabhakaran was arrested by the police while taking bribes from Muhammad Shabin for clearing the documents related to a property.
Thrissur Vigilance Court had sentenced an overseer to rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case yesterday. Jimmy Varghese was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The incident related to the case took place in 2010. Jimmy Varghese was the overseer of Vadakkencherry panchayat at that time. He took Rs 5,000 as a bribe.
Jimmy asked for a fee of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the application submitted to get the building number. Vigilance came to his house afterward and took Jimmy Varghese into custody. Jimmy Varghese was found guilty in the case and was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 in two sections. If the fine of Rs 50,000 is not paid, he will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for another six months. The punishments can be done together, said the judgment. Thrissur Vigilance Court Judge V Anil is the one who passed the sentence.
