MOSCOW: A famous Russian pro-war blogger has been arrested after his slanderings directed at Russian President Vladimir Putin ignited controversy. Igor Girkin is a former KGB officer whose contributions were tantamount to the Russian annexation of Crimea in Ukraine. According to Russian state media, Igor is also convicted of mass murder for downing the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in eastern Ukraine. 17 people were killed in the mishap.
Security agents covertly picked Igor up from his house in Moscow. Igor also co-founded an ultra-nationalist political group called ‘Angry Patriots Club’ and is best known for its harsh takes on war in Ukraine. Started as a pro-Russian blogging space, Angry Patriots Club has recently lambasted the Russian army’s kowtowing before its Ukrainian counterparts in war. Igor even went afar calling Putin a “ lowlife, cowardly bum” and asked the president to transfer power to someone capable of winning the war.
The recent post has gained huge traction within the Russian populace hence an action on Igor Girkin was well presaged. If found guilty of his charges, Igor may spend five years in jail.
