IMPHAL: While the entire country is yet to recover from the shock of the incident in which women were gang-raped and paraded naked in Manipur, more details of atrocities are coming out from the state. 80-year-old Ibetombi, the wife of a freedom fighter, was locked in her house and burnt alive by a group of attackers in Kakching district. The brutal incident took place in Serou village.
Ibetombi is the wife of S Churachand Singh, a freedom fighter who was honoured by former President APJ Abdul Kalam. The woman was inside her house when the group of assailants reached the spot. The assailants then locked the house and set the house on fire after pouring petrol.
The assailants also attacked Ibetombi's grandson Premkanta who tried to save his grandmother. 21-year-old Premkanta narrowly escaped death after being shot in the hand. It is learnt that the incident took place on May 28. Serou village is 45 km from the capital Imphal.
