KOCHI: The government has clarified in the High Court that there is no need for a CBI investigation into the death of Dr. Vandana Das who was killed at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and the investigation is being conducted in an extremely professional manner. The affidavit of Crime Branch DySP MM Jose is in the petition filed by Vandana's parents KG Mohandas and T Vasanthakumari seeking a CBI investigation. A bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas will hear the petition on Monday.

Dr. Vandana Das was killed on the night of May 10 by Sandeep, who was brought by the police for medical examination. The petitioners had alleged that the police failed in security and brought him without handcuffs. The Crime Branch pointed out that the petitioners have not raised the allegation that the investigation was flawed. It is alleged that there was a failure in handling the situation. For this reason alone the investigation cannot be left to the CBI. The Supreme Court has laid down the circumstances requiring a CBI investigation. Such circumstances do not exist in this case, the affidavit said.

The petitioners alleged that when the accused became violent, the policemen rushed in and closed the room from outside and the investigation was done by hiding the police's failures. The Crime Branch is of the opinion that these allegations are not true. "The unfortunate incident happened within two minutes. The police did what they could. Alex, the home guard, stabbed the child six times in the head and shoulder. ASI Manilal was stabbed in the head. SI Baby has injured knees. Still trying to control the situation. The affidavit states that Vandana was still unaware that she was in an unsafe condition.
