KANNUR: A group of stray dogs surrounded and attacked an 11-year-old girl. The incident happened at Pilathara in Kannur. She was attacked when she was going home from the madrasa Sunday morning near the national highway. Ayesha, a class 6 student of Pilathara Mary Matha School, was attacked. She was rescued by the locals who rushed to the spot after hearing Ayesha crying. She has been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital after the dog bit her on her leg.

Meantime, another incident happened in Palakkad also. A 71-year-old bedridden patient was attacked by a stray dog. The dog entered the house and attacked him.


The nuisance of stray dogs has been increasing in the state recently. An 11-year-old boy had died after attacked by a stray dog in Kannur last month. The dead is Nihal Naushad, a native of Muzhappilangad Edakkad. The boy was found missing by 5 pm. After a search by the locals, he was found bitten by a stray dog near another house. Though he was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved. Nihal was dumb. An eight-year-old girl Jhanvi was also attacked by stray dogs in Muzhappilangad. Jhanvi, daughter of fisherman Kalangot Babu, who lives in Edakkad railway station area, was bitten by stray dogs on June 20.
