KOZHIKODE: The investigation team led by SI Prakash of Saber Police will be sent to Goa today in connection with a person extorting Rs 40000 from PS Radhakrishnan, a resident of Kozhikode's Palazhi, a retired senior manager of Coal India Limited.
The amount that reached the Ahmedabad resident's JioPayment account was deposited in the Goa branch of the Maharashtra-based Ratnakar Bank. The money reached Ratnakar Bank's account through the account of a trading company operating in Goa itself. Many people have shares in this trading company. The police say that any one of them could be behind the fraud. Meanwhile, the WhatsApp number used for the fraud and the account used to deposit the money in Goa have been found to belong to a native of Ahmedabad. The investigation is focused on him. But it has not been confirmed whether he is the accused as it is possible to get phone number using fake name and documents. Communication is only made through WhatsApp on the phone number the police has found. Police have approached WhatsApp for information including IP address.
A native of Andhra who was with Radhakrishnan in Coal India Limited was used as a cover for the fraud. The scam was made by stealing his voice and appearance from social media and making a fake video with the help of artificial intelligence.
