KOTTAYAM: Amid heated discussion on who will be the Congress candidate in the Puthupally by-election, Achu Oommen, daughter of the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, clarified her position. Achu Oommen said that she would not be active in politics and would always like to live as Oommen Chandy's daughter.

"After Appa, Chandy is the politician in the family. Chandy Oommen is worthy. Appa's position was that his children should come into politics with their own talent and the discussions around his name should be stopped. The candidate for Puthupally is decided by the Congress party. If the decision to field a candidate from Oommen Chandy's family, it will be an honour", Achu said.

KPCC president K Sudhakaran had responded in the morning that there would be a candidate from Oommen Chandy's family in the Puthupally by-election, but in the evening he went back on that statement. Sudhakaran stated in the press release that he meant to consult with Oommen Chandy's family while deciding the candidate and never said that the candidate will be from Oommen Chandy's family in the by-election.
