NEW DELHI: BDJS has demanded seven Lok Sabha constituencies including Thrissur in the 2024 parliamentary elections. This was during the meeting held by BDJS president and Kerala NDA convener Thushar Vellappally with BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi.
Apart from Thrissur, Wayanad, Chalakudy, Kottayam, Idukki, Mavelikara and Alathur constituencies were also demanded. There were reports that Suresh Gopi's name was being actively considered by the BJP in Thrissur. Thushar Vellappally came to contest in Thrissur in the last Lok Sabha elections, but on the instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he contested against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad instead.
Discussions were also held on expanding the NDA alliance in Kerala. Tushar is said to have informed Nadda that talks are underway to bring a prominent political party in Central Travancore into the NDA. Both expressed the hope that the development projects of the Narendra Modi government can be brought to every home and heart of the people in Kerala to achieve great success in Kerala. Thushar Vellappally also demanded that more funds be allocated to support prices for rice and rubber farmers, in a petition to Nadda. State Treasurer Anirudh Karthikeyan also attended the meeting.
