IMPHAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s priorities have been misplaced in the Manipur riots, said Manipur BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip. In an article to the national media, Haokip, who is one of the MLAs from 10 tribal communities in Manipur, also criticized Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Haokip informed that he had already written to the chief minister in May asking for a separate administrative system in the Kuki-dominated districts of the state. He alleged that the state administration was complicit in the communal attacks in the state and that the chief minister colluded.
A biased government is detrimental to the peace of the state and although such bias was always present in some degree in Manipur, it accentuated under the present chief minister, said Haokip.
The BJP MLA from Saikot in Manipur's Churachandpur district said that he and several other MLAs from Manipur have been still trying to meet with Modi. However, he added that he is still optimistic that only the central government can bring peace to the state.
Hokip indicated that the BJP MLAs of Manipur, including himself, are trying to meet the Prime Minister and that only the central government can restore peace in the state.
