KOZHIKODE: Police found that the scissors found in the woman's stomach belonged to the Kozhikode Medical College. According to the investigation report, two doctors and two nurses of the hospital are accused.

The investigation was led by Medical College Assistant Commissioner K Sudarshan. A report has been submitted to the District Medical Officer. The committee chaired by DMO will meet on 1st of next month. At the same time, the woman responded to a media saying that she wants proper compensation and will continue her strike until she gets justice.

In 2017, Harshina, a resident of Pantheerankaavu, lived with pain for five years after she left the scissors inside her abdomen during the delivery operation. The incident took place during the third caesarean of the woman.

After the surgery, she was in severe pain. The doctors said it was because of the pain from the stitches. But later Harshina faced many physical difficulties. The infection and pain became unbearable. Then in September 2022, during an examination at a private hospital, it was found that there was a metal object in the abdomen. A surgery performed at Kozhikode Medical College last year removed the scissors from abdomen.

The woman had earlier lodged a complaint with Health Minister Veena George demanding that the culprits be found. The minister appointed a special team to investigation twice, but they reported that the scissors did not belong to the medical college. It was sent for forensic examination but failed to determine the age. Kozhikode Medical College had all the documents including the instrumental register. According to the report, no scissors were found to be missing.

However, Harshina stated that she did not feel any problem even after the first two surgeries and the health problems arose after the surgery at Kozhikode Medical College. So the woman insisted that it was the fault of the medical college. After both investigations by the health department failed, the cabinet ordered a police investigation on March 29.
