onam-kit

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister K N Balagopal clarified that no decision has been taken regarding the distribution of kits for Onam in the state. The finance minister emphasized that the kit distribution this year will not be the same as it was during and after Covid.

'The government is striving to celebrate Onam in a meaningful manner ,' said the Finance Minister. He pointed out that there are only three weeks left for Onam. He further explained the financial situation, stating that out of the required Rs 100, the state needs to generate Rs 70 on its own. In comparison, many other states receive 40% to 50% support from the Central government. The remaining 60% and 50% are tax shares for the Centre. The Finance Minister expressed disappointment and criticized the Central government for its treatment of Kerala.

The finance minister highlighted the inability to pay salaries to KSRTC employees. He attributed this issue to the rise in oil prices, unfavorable central policies and the state not receiving its fair share of money from the Centre. In response to the salary concerns, K N Balagopal assured that the state government would extend assistance to ensure the employees' salaries are paid.
