KOCHI: In a report prepared by the Department of Statistics regarding road accidents from 2018 to 2022, it has been indicated that two-wheelers account for almost half of the road accidents in the state. Those injured and killed are between the ages of 18 and 25. Accidents are more in Ernakulam district and deaths are more in Thiruvananthapuram.

Among the total number of accidents, 8,154 people between the age of 18 and 25 were victims. There were 76,734 two-wheeler accidents during this period and 7,733 deaths. Two-wheelers accounted for 41.18 per cent of the total accidents. 39.72 per cent of the dead were two-wheeler passengers.

Car accidents account for the second-highest number of casualties in the state. Out of 53,519 accidents, 4,180 people have died in various car accidents across the state. Most accidents occurred in December and January. Christmas, New Year celebrations and the winter season are considered to be the reason. The report was prepared as part of the National Statistics Day celebrations.
