KOZHIKODE: Harshina is in no way backing out from the protest until the culprits get arrested. In 2017, Harshina, a resident of Pantheerankaavu, lived with pain for five years after doctors unknowingly left scissors inside her abdomen during the delivery operation. The incident took place during her third cesarean.

After the surgery, she was in severe pain. The doctors said it was because of the pain from the stitches. But later Harshina faced many physical difficulties. The infection and pain became unbearable. Then in September 2022, in a scanning conducted at a private hospital, a metal object was found in the abdomen. A surgery was performed in Kozhikode medical college and the scissors were removed.

Yesterday, Police confirmed the scissors belonged to Kozhikode Medical College. According to the investigation report, two doctors and two nurses were part of the surgery. Chances remain high about the doctors and nurses getting charged.

The investigation was led by Medical College Assistant Commissioner K Sudarshan. A report has been submitted to the District Medical Officer. The committee chaired by DMO will meet on the 1st of next month. At the same time, Harshina responded to the media saying that she wants proper compensation and will continue her strike until she gets justice.

The investigation report has been passed to district medical officer Dr K K Rajaram. The medical board will decide the further procedures to be adopted.

Earlier, Health Minister Veena George announced compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the victim. However, Harshina rejected the amount after the minister hastily concluded about the scissors not being from Kozhikode medical college. “ I want to know where the scissors came from. My fight has just reached halfway to victory. It will continue until the culprits get caught and I receive the compensation” Harshina said.
