KOTTAYAM: Four police officers including an SI were suspended for not acting on a complaint from a housewife. Principal SI Ajmal Hussain of Vaikom station, PRO Assistant Sub-Inspector VK Vinod, Civil Police Officers V. Vinoy, and P. J. Sabu were suspended by District Police Chief K. Karthik on the instructions of Ernakulam Range DIG A. Sreenivasan.

The woman, a cleaning staff in one private hospital in Ernakulam was returning home from work. She got off the bus at Pulichuvadu in Vaikom on the 13th of this month and was heading home. It was at this moment that her neighbor surfaced in a scooter and started assaulting her. The woman shrieked out loud which made the neighbor flee. The victim's husband reached this time to accompany her back home but was perturbed seeing his shaken wife. They both headed to the police station to complain.

Even two days after complaining, the police officers didn’t care to register the case. Fed up with the languid approach, the housewife dialed the DIG and shared her grief. It was thus the case got registered on the 16th of this month. Pulinchuvadu native Aneesh Kumar was arrested later.

However, the police officers are unsettled and agitated over the mass suspension. According to police, the assailant was the neighbor so a detailed study was needed, since the delay.
