THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sales have been hot as the Beverages Corporation has introduced heavy discounts on some unpopular liquor brands that have been sitting in retail stores without a demand. Out of the 1480 cases that were stockpiled at outlets in various districts, 1179 cases were sold and 60 lakhs of income was received. Only 301 cases remain and BEVCO hopes to sell them too. The sale started from May 16. From time to time BEVCO conducts such revenue sales in the name of brand exit. As this has happened in the month of Karkidaka, trolls are appearing on social media as 'Aadi discount'.

Brands that have been discontinued in Kerala are being sold at a lower price. The decision was based on the demand of those liquor companies. BEVCO has a double benefit as the companies have already paid import duty. The space in the shops was cleared and the liquor that has been stockpiled has also been sold.

If the contracting liquor companies register the new brand, they will have to pay 20 percent of the case price to BEVCO in the form of STN (stock transfer note) for every load unloaded for display at retail outlets. Only if they achieve 10 percent sales within a specified period, they will be included in the regular supplier list, or else they will be dropped.
