THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Oommen Chandy commemoration, organized by KPCC in the capital, became a platform for sharing emotional memories. Political, religious and communal leaders and spiritual gurus shared warm feelings about the popular former chief minister. Oommen Chandy had been a political hotbed for more than five decades in the capital city and yesterday's event was the first one without his physical presence. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the memorial service. His son Chandi Oommen was also present.

No Substitute: Satheesan

Leader of Opposition VF Satheesan said that Oommen Chandy is the person who found fundamental changes and ways for public work. He walked with compassion in his eyes and a touch of comfort in his fingertips. There is no substitute for Oommen Chandy in the party. Satheesan also said that it is his responsibility to follow his life path like a textbook.

Volunteer activities will be coordinated: Sudhakaran

KPCC president K Sudhakaran said that KPCC is taking a decision to coordinate and expand the voluntary activities under the leadership of Congress and related organizations through a new system named after Oommen Chandy. 'There was a big shock when stones were pelted at Oommen Chandy in my district Kannur.' He also said that he remembers Oommen Chandy holding out his love stick when the emotions of the workers were agitated like the sea.
