THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is continuing in the northern districts of the state. Trees were uprooted and houses were damaged in many places yesterday. The water level is rising in some dams.
Six houses collapsed in Thrissur. A couple and their daughter were injured after the roof of a house collapsed in Thiruvilwamala yesterday morning. The injured persons are Poothanakara native Muralidharan, his wife Latha and daughter Haritha. The three were living in a one-room house. The accident happened when they were sleeping.
A landslide occurred in the Karnataka forest area adjacent to Ulikkal panchayat in Iritty, Kannur. Flooding is severe in Manikkadavu and Vayathur areas. Traffic came to a standstill in the region after the bridge on the Manikkadavu River got submerged. A tree fell on the house of Abdullah Asadi, a native of North Kuppam in Thaliparamba. Electricity was cut off in several areas after trees fell on top of electric poles and wires. The authorities have warned that the shutters of Pazhassi Dam will be opened if the rain continues heavily.

One more cyclonic circulation, heavy rain till Sunday
With the formation of a new cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal near the Andhra and Odisha coast, the state is likely to receive heavy rain till Sunday. It will strengthen into a low-pressure today. Three cyclonic circulations are existing in different parts of the Bay of Bengal.
Northern districts will continue to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Kannur and Kasargod will receive more rain. While central districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall, southern districts are likely to receive intermittent rain.
