THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Doctors of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and SAT Hospital have saved the life of a two-year-old child who suffered severe head injuries after being thrown away by her parents under the influence of alcohol in Kollam. The child, who was in a coma stage, was brought back to life by the doctors by giving her expert treatment.

Health Minister Veena George visited the child at SAT Hospital. The minister said that the Women and Child Development Department would ensure the protection and further treatment of the child. The Child Welfare Committee took over the child and allotted two caretakers as there was no one to look after the child. The minister said that the child will be under the protection of the Child Welfare Committee from now on.

The child was admitted to SAT Hospital on July 9. The child was unconscious when brought to the hospital. The child was immediately admitted to the pediatric ICU and given expert care, including ventilator treatment. Medication was given to control the bleeding. Great care was taken to avoid fits and swelling. The baby, who recovered after two and a half weeks of intensive care will be discharged today.

A team of doctors from the departments of neurosurgery, pediatric neurology, pediatric surgery, and pediatrics led the treatment of the child.
