BENGALURU: Chandrayaan 3, India's flagship lunar mission successfully completed its fifth orbit around the Earth. The final and fifth orbit lift of the lunar probe took place today. Chandrayaan 3 is currently orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 12,609*236 km. It was lifted into orbit between 2 and 3 pm through a process called ISRO firing.

With this, Chandrayaan reached a distance of 100,000 km above the Earth. In the following days, it will begin moving towards the Moon's orbit. After orbiting the Earth one more time, the probe will move into the Moon's magnetic field. The probe is expected to enter the Moon's gravitational field by August 1. Chandrayaan 3 was launched on July 14.

Even after entering the lunar orbit, the probe will gradually approach the Moon. The lander carrying the rover will attempt a soft landing after coming within 100 km of the Moon using the propulsion module. The spacecraft will make its closest approach to the lunar surface on August 23.
