KOLLAM: In Ramankulangara, the fire brigade heroically pulled out the laborer who was stuck in a collapsed well and was covered in soil. Vinod, a native of Kallumpuram, was brought out by the rescue team after an hour and a half long rescue operation. The rescue operation was carried out using a rope after carefully moving the soil.

A well under construction near a flat complex in Ramankulangara Mathethara Nagar is the one that collapsed. The accident happened around 2 pm while the ring was being lowered down. The collapse happened abruptly. While the other workers who were with Vinod escaped, he got stuck in the soil mass. The accompanying workers tried to pull out Vinod, who was buried in the soil till his nose, but to no avail.

The firemen who came afterward risked their lives and led the rescue operation by going down the collapsed well. By the time the soil up to the shoulder was moved with a shovel, the soil collapsed again. With this, the nearby wall also became a risk factor.

Despite the adverse conditions, the rescue team continued the operation and finally, after a long time of effort, Vinod was lifted out with a rope and then transferred to the hospital. It is reported that there are only minor injuries.
