THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The chief minister has intervened in the incident of malfunctioning of the mike during the commemoration meet of Oommen Chandy. He directed that no further action should be taken and only a security check is enough. There are reports that he has asked to close the case today. The chief minister intervened after the issue sparked a controversy. Many including the opposition leader came forward against the police action.
The incident related to the case happened during the commemoration meet organized by the KPCC at Ayyankali Hall the other day. The mike's voice interrupted when the chief minister was speaking. The cantonment police then registered a suo moto case under the Kerala Police Act.
It is reported that the case has been filed under the section of knowingly doing an act that endangers public safety. The function was presided over by K Sudhakaran and several UDF leaders including opposition leader V D Satheesan and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala attended it.
When the chief minister came to deliver his speech, some activists shouted slogans ‘Oommen Chandy Zindabad’ from the balcony of the hall. The chief minister watched patiently as they continued shouting slogans. The leaders on the dais and Oommen Chandy's son Chandy Oommen raised their hands and asked them to stop chanting it. The microphone malfunctioned minutes after the chief minister started his speech.
