THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister MB Rajesh said that toddy will be introduced as the unique natural and traditional alcoholic drink in the state. The minister also said that toddy shops will be converted into establishments where Kerala's unique food and pure toddy are available to tourists, including foreign tourists. However, the government did not consider the demand of toddy shop licensees to reduce the distance limit of toddy shops from 400 meters.

Apart from Palakkad, toddy production will be promoted in groves in all regions of the state. The quantity of toddy that can be produced from coconut will be scientifically revised, the minister said.

Kudumbashree will be tasked with making value-added products like vinegar from the excess toddy after the sale. A track and trace system will be implemented to accurately monitor the transportation of toddy from one district to another.
