KOCHI: The Crime Branch has submitted a report stating that there was no need to register a case against CPM State Secretary MV Govindan for allegedly calling for riots. The report was submitted to the state police chief. The report stated that MV Govindan did not make a statement that can be charged with abetment to riots and there was no need to file a case. The preliminary investigation report was submitted by Crime Branch SP Sabu Mathew.

It was a person named Paichira Nawaz who filed a complaint with the state police chief and the home secretary alleging that MV Govindan called for riots while speaking against K Sudhakaran in connection with the POCSO case against Monson Mavunkal. Following this, the Crime Branch Kochi Unit was entrusted with the preliminary investigation. The report was prepared after a detailed examination of MV Govindan's remarks, video, media reports, complaint, and statement of the complainant.
