MARADU: The accused engaged in stealing only expensive shaving cartridges from supermarkets have been arrested. The police arrested Manish Makyajan (23), Mehboob Mahmood Sheikh (24) and Ayan Moideen (26), all belonging to Mumbai. They stole shaving cartridges worth lakhs from supermarkets in the state. Their method is to steal expensive shaving cartridges from supermarkets and takes them outside by hiding them in their clothes. A cartridge cost between Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
The accused were arrested from Kozhikode by the crime squad led by Ernakulam ACP Rajkumar, Maradu Police and Kozhikode City Police while investigating the robbery at Maradu Super Market. The accused were identified by the security personnel during the robbery at Hyper Market in Edappally. However, the accused left the place after attacking them. They would return to Mumbai with hundreds of cartridges stolen from supermarkets over several days. The accused steal cartridges worth Rs 3 to 5 lakh each time.
AI cameras helped to track down the accused. After uploading the CCTV footage of the accused on the AI server, the accused were identified by checking the footage of similar persons caught in the cameras of different districts.
