KOZHIKODE: ‘Toddy is not any alcohol but a nutrient’ remarked LDF convener E P Jayarajan. The CPM leader further inculcated how to use Toddy at its best. He said the Toddy needs to be sipped at the right moment that is when it is taken just out from the sap of the tree. The CPM leader insisted on zero alcohol presence in Toddy during this specific time. He later criticized the primitive methods still adopted by Toddy Shops across Kerala. “There are tourist resorts that offer palm toddy akin to serving bed coffee, the toddy shops in the state should also acclimatize to modern ways”
“ As of now, people are going to toddy shops as if they are headed to any secret place. Increasing toddy production will ensure coconut farmers thrive in business. More employment opportunities will be generated and moreover, fresh Toddy can be branded ingenious to our state and it will be a bonus. If any party is discontent with the steps taken, they are free to discuss. However, no law can stop toddy production in the state.” Jayarajan opined.
The coconut trees sprawling across resorts is a new business trend adopted in the state. Kerala should make the most of its copious coconut trees and should weave plans for lucrative business while also ending any debates of intoxication. said, EP Jayarajan.
He also addressed concerns about the current dearth seen in Toddy laborers and coconut tree climbers. “ These laborers are prone to be affected by scars and warts across their legs, and it was quite normal earlier. However, now it is judged aesthetically weak, and thus such people are denied decent marriage proposals,” said E P Jayarajan.
