THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 19 bills, including a replacement for the Prevention of Violence Against Health Workers Ordinance introduced in the wake of Dr. Vandana Das's murder, are likely to reach the legislative session starting on August 7. It is not clear how many of these will be considered for sure in the 12-day conference till August 24. As many as 17 bills, including ten already published and seven unpublished bills, have to be considered afresh by the Assembly. Two bills, which were introduced earlier and left for the Select Committee, may return after the completion of evidence collection.

As the Governor has immediately approved the ordinance to prevent violence against health workers, the government hopes that even if the House passes a substitute bill, the Governor's approval will not be delayed. The amendment bill has made the provisions of the earlier bill more stringent. Meanwhile, around 10 bills passed by the previous sessions are still awaiting the approval of the governor.
