THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food Safety Department conducted 3340 inspections at eateries on the last day. 132 special squads conducted lightning inspections in more than 1500 hotels and establishments that prepare and distribute high-risk food including shawarma, Minister Veena George said.

Food Safety Commissioner VR Vinod and Joint Commissioner Jacob Thomas led the inspections. A total of 1470 establishments were issued notices including compounding notices to 1335 establishments and rectification notices to 135 establishments. The operations of 25 establishments that have committed serious violations of the law have been suspended. 385 shawarma inspections were conducted. A total of 13 surveillance samples were collected.
