KOLLAM: A youth was arrested in the incident of beating up a twelve-year-old boy. The accused has been identified as Ranjith (33), a native of Kadakkal.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening. The beaten-up boy and Ranjith's son brought a cricket bat from school to play. After playing, Ranjith's son kept the bat at home. Ranjith reached home in the evening and asked where the bat came from. Ranjith's son said that it was his friend who took the bat from the school. Following this, Ranjith reached the twelve-year-old's house along with his son. According to the complaint, he locked the child in the room and brutally beat him. Ranjith asked why the child had brought the bat from the school.

He was hit on his arm and leg and his right arm was fractured. The grandmother accompanied the child to the Kadakkal police station and complained. Initially, he was admitted to the Kadakkal Taluk Hospital but as he had a fractured arm he was referred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. At first, the police did not register a case. A case was filed on Wednesday night after a complaint was raised against the police. Ranjith's arrest was recorded and he was produced at the magistrate's house and remanded.
