NEW DELHI: BJP MP Ajay Pratap Singh urged the government to make live-in relationships illegal. The MP demanded that the live-in relationship law be banned to prevent violence against women.

The MP made this demand by bringing up the Mumbai murder of Saraswati Vaidya, who was killed by her live-in partner. According to WHO, 38 per cent of women in the world are killed by their partners, the MP said.

'Marriage and family relationships are part of India's cultural heritage. Our religious texts, customs and rituals do not accept the concept of a live-in relationship. Should we continue with India's culture or turn the country into America or Mexico? I think live-in relationships are immoral. They should be declared illegal. The court has clarified that live-in relationships are not illegal. But this issue has now been raised because the order is being misused .' - Ajay Pratap Singh said.
