NEW DELHI: The BJP MP in Parliament demanded the removal of the name 'India' from the Constitution. This demand was raised in the Rajya Sabha by MP Naresh Bansal from Uttarakhand. The MP demanded that "India" or 'Bharat' should be changed to only 'Bharat' in the Constitution. He also argued that the country should be freed from colonial thinking. Naresh Bansal pointed out that Narendra Modi himself had called for a change in the colonial mindset in his Independence Day speech. P T Usha led the Rajya Sabha during this session.

Meanwhile, the opposition accused Naresh Bansal of violating the law by being allowed to raise this issue. The leaders of the opposition coalition said that the BJP's policy came out through the MP.

The parliament was still at a standstill today due to the noise of the opposition protesting the prolongation of the debate on the motion of no confidence against the government. The BJP raised the controversial demand when the opposition walked out by boycotting the discussion.
