THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: According to the university statute, principals-in-charge can be appointed for three months. This way, the in-charge administration can continue for a maximum of 3 times, totalling 9 months. However, in 66 Govt. Arts and Science colleges, the in-charge administration has been going on illegally for up to 5 years.

Due to delays in appointments, many deserving individuals had to retire without getting the rank of Principal. Additionally, 60 persons in the PSC rank list have not been appointed as Assistant professors either. Many people have also lost their chances for promotion.

It is also illegal to appoint another committee to redress the grievance instead of approving the principal appointment list, which has already been approved by the Director of College Education, PSC and the Higher Education Secretary. Among those affected are the former leaders of the left-wing teachers' union. The Minister does not have the power to constitute a Grievance Redressal Committee again from the list approved by the PSC.

It has also been reported that instead of accepting the list of 43 persons upheld by the Administrative Tribunal, the Left organization is pressuring the government to file an appeal in the High Court.
