KOZHIKODE: Minister Ahmed Devarkov said that Beypore Port has reached international standards. With the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) certification, foreign ships can dock at the port now. The certificate is valid for five years.
Since the port received an ISPS code, foreign cargo and passenger ships can reach Beypore now. Emigration clearance will also be available. With this, Beypur, which will rise to international standards, will become the main port of the Malabar region ahead of Vizhinjam port.
Several renovation works have been undertaken for the port to obtain ISPS certification. Accordingly, the perimeter wall, which was two meters high, was raised to 2.4 meters and a barbed wire fence was erected over it. X-ray scanning system at the port gate, metal detector, automatic radar system, and modern communication system including wharf are provided. The port's main entrance and passenger gate have been rebuilt. The works were completed as per the instructions of MMD. Dredging is also underway to accommodate larger ships.
