MUVATTUPUZHA: Post-mortem was conducted on the bodies of the inmates who died the other day at the municipality-owned old age home located at Murikkal. The bodies of Eli Skaria (73) of Mammalassery Cheerathadam and Kamalam (72) of Airapuram Math were handed over to their relatives after post-mortem at Kalammasery Medical College. The health department will investigate the incident in which, five people died due to an unknown disease within two weeks.

Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation into the deaths. On Sunday, the police team reached the shelter named Snehaveed, and collected information. Health department officials also reached the spot. Two elderly people were found dead in Snehaveed, a senior citizen center of the municipality on Saturday. In the last 15 days, 5 people have died here with the same symptoms. Lakshmi died on July 19, Amina Parit on July 27 and Eliamma George on July 15. Among them, except Lakshmi, all the other three showed similar symptoms.

Eli's feet had swelling 3 days before she died. Then small wounds appeared and the next day they turned into large wounds. On the fourth day, she vomited blood and died. Bineesh Kumar, the manager of the shelter, said that after the death, the swelling formed on the leg burst without bleeding
