ALUVA: The lifeless body of the five-year-old brutally murdered in Aluva got merged with the soil; hopefully entering a sojourn to a world bereft of any such demonic minds. While the cremation continued on Sunday morning, tremulous wails surrounded the Thaikkattukara area as people failed to withhold their emotions watching the casket go down the earth.
People from as far as Kochi and other regions reached the public crematorium to get a final glimpse of the young girl. Women folks cried inconsolably along with the victim's parents while some others touched the coffin and placed it on their faces as a mark of respect, maybe forgiveness for the brutal act.
The postmortem procedures were completed by Saturday evening at Kalamassery medical college. On Sunday morning the mortal remains were taken to Santhitheeram public crematorium in Keezhmadu in Aluva. Earlier, at morning 8 am, the body was kept for public viewing at Thaikkattukara L P school, where the victim studied. During this time, the victim's mother collapsed upon seeing her daughter's face and was shifted to the Hospital.
Anwar Sadat MLA and Panchayat President Raji Santosh monitored the happenings and made all arrangements for public viewing on the school premise. The victim's father and her three siblings later went to the public crematorium for the farewell journey. Here, it was social worker Revadh Babu who conducted the last rites. As the victim's father and siblings are alive, the body wasn't cremated but buried in a coffin, following the norms of Hindu religion.
The victim's best friend in school placed a teddy bear toy on the coffin as a parting gift which created emotional outbursts from teachers and other people crowded. Even headmistress K.A. Jasmine failed to hold her composure and burst into tears.
