waste-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Out of the 473 tonnes of waste generated in one single day, almost 150 tonnes remain disorganized and are not properly disposed of. The findings come from the corporation's recent study, but the authorities are keeping it from reaching the public as they fear protests from the opposition. The issue was even discussed in the last day's meeting convened to discuss solid waste disposal. Almost 70 tonnes of waste are dropped on the nooks and corners of the city, which has now turned into a chaotic mess.

Kitchen Bins, Ring compost, and pipe compost were earlier distributed by the corporation to help decompose the inorganic waste at the same place as its source. However, after the promising start, the distribution got halted for reasons unknown. Meanwhile, the corporation's former secretary has leveled big corruption charges against the authorities involved in kitchen bin distribution earlier.

Very deftly, the governing body has shrouded the Kitchen bin corruption accusations by transferring the secretary. The inoculum fraud found by the audit department was also confined to paper without anyone knowing about it. Presently, organic waste is also collected from some wards by Haritakarmasena in addition to non-organic waste. These are normally distributed to pig farms working across the city. Some private agencies are also collecting such waste from Haritakarmasena. However, not all wastes are reaching pig farms, with many getting dropped on the corners of busy streets across the city. Such gross violations are turning the water bodies in the city to waste disposal units.
