THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the arrest of former IG S Surendran, the fourth accused in Monson Mavunkal's antiquities fraud case, IG Guguloth Lakshman, the third accused, may also be arrested by the Crime Branch.

The Crime Branch has summoned Lakshman for questioning at 11 am today. The Crime Branch is not likely to give any relaxations to Lakshman, who leveled very serious allegations against the Chief Minister's office. The arrest may be recorded after questioning. In that case, Lakshman, the Police Training Division IG, will be suspended again. Lakshman's promotion to ADGP has been prevented by the government.

Lakshman recently made serious allegations against the Chief Minister's office in his petition to the High Court, putting the government on the defensive. In his petition, Lakshman alleged that an extraordinary constitutional authority is functioning in the Chief Minister's office to arbitrate certain financial transactions and settle disputes. Lakshman made the allegation in his petition filed against the action of including him in the financial fraud case against Monson Mavunkal.

The Crime Branch had earlier found that the IG was directly involved in the fraud. Lakshman returned to service after a 15-month suspension. ADGP TK Vinodkumar's investigation report against Lakshman has been handed over to the government.
