THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ending the 52-day drought of the trawling ban, the fishermen folks will venture into the sea starting Monday, expecting a good catch. The trawling ban will end at 12 am on Monday morning.
Fishermen with motor boats are riled up by the inclement weather, meanwhile, hikes in kerosene and diesel prices have also affected their profession. During the trawling ban, the fishermen were allowed only a few days to venture into the sea, following warnings from IMD about cyclones and bad weather.
In Kollam's Neendakara harbor, conventional boats were allowed during the trawling ban but inboard boats were anchored at the bay. Albeit smaller vessels venturing deep into the sea during this period, the fishermen were left frustrated, with the poor catch they managed.
Boats going into the sea after the ban should strictly avoid catching small fish as per the rules brought out by the department. It has been alleged that the free ration to fishermen and the consolation amount promised to the members of the Sampadya Scheme got delayed during these terrible times of ban.
