THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indicator lights are used by drivers to communicate with each other while driving. Therefore, if the indicators are not used properly, it can lead to confusion and cause danger. Indicator lights should only be used in legally prescribed cases. The bottom line is not to use it unnecessarily under the impression that other drivers have done it.

Kerala MVD has come out with an awareness video about using indicator lights without proper understanding like in the above mentioned manner. MVD warns about the need to use the hazard warning light correctly.

The situation where all four indicators in the vehicle are operated together is known as a hazard warning light. Many people use hazard warning lights while driving to get ahead at crossroads, in rain and snow, or to attract attention. MVD has clarified through a video shared on social media that such misunderstandings should be avoided and in which situations hazard warning lights should be used.

  1. If the vehicle has to stop on the side of the road due to mechanical breakdown or accident.
  2. When the vehicle is being towed (Hazard warning light should be operated by both the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle in this situation).
  3. If the vehicle cannot be driven on the road in bad weather and has to be stopped.

MVD directs that hazard warning lights should be avoided except in these three situations.
