NEW DELHI: Several people were injured in communal clashes during a religious procession in Haryana's Gurugram. After the procession led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad was stopped, stones were thrown at each other. Around 2500 people who came to participate in the procession sought shelter in the shrine as the conflict intensified. This includes women and children. The police have not been able to get them out. It is reported that 20 people were injured in the clash. One person has been shot in the police action.
The violence started when the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra reached Nuh near Gurugram. A group of youth blocked the procession on the Gurugram-Alwar highway. Later, they threw stones at each other and the assailants set fire to the vehicle. As the tension did not subside, the police fired tear gas and fired in the air. According to preliminary information, the conflict arose over a defamatory video shared by a Bajrang Dal worker on social media.
