BENGALURU: Police have started the search for a woman who siphoned Rs 1.1 crore from a man she met through a matrimonial website. The 41-year-old man is from K.R. Puram in Bengaluru but is currently working in the UK. Recently, the woman while in a video call with the victim undressed herself and engaged in licentious talks. Some days later the woman sent a screenshot of the same and coerced the man to settle the case with money or else warned about defaming him in public.
After receiving a complaint from the man, police froze Rs 84 lakhs remaining in the woman's account. It was some months back that the man returned to Bangalore from the UK. During this time, he also registered on a matrimonial website, expecting good proposals to fall his way.
The woman meanwhile created a fake account and befriended the man through the website. The talks were cordial at the start and the woman revealed about her family saying she was raised by a single parent and told that she currently lives with her mother. On July 2, she called the man and asked for Rs 1500 in urgent to treat her mother who fell sick all of a sudden. On July 4, nearly 12 am-midnight, the woman video-called the man and undressed her saree to engage in filthy flirtatious talks. It never passed through the victim's mind that she might deftly live-record the procedures.
The woman later intimidated the victim about sending the same to his family members. To avoid public drubbing, the victim transferred Rs 1,14,00,000 to the woman's account in total on several occasions. While paying online, the man understood her real identity and thus complained to the police. A case was registered under IT ACT.
