NEW DELHI: A home guard was shot dead in a clash during Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Haryana's Nuh district. Many people including policemen were injured. Sajjan Singh, DSP, Hodal, Palwal district, was shot in the head. An inspector was also shot. The authorities announced a curfew in the area and suspended internet services.

The rally started in Gurugram under the leadership of BJP District President Gargi Kakar. It is reported that a video announcing that Bajrang Dal worker, cow protector and Rajasthan murder accused Monu Manesar will participate in the rally led to the conflict. The Rajasthan Police had also reached Nuh to catch him who had been absconding for five months.

After the yatra entered the Nuh district, a group of youth blocked the rally near Kedla Mode. During the ensuing stone pelting, two cars accompanying the rally were set on fire. Monu Manesar, accused in several criminal cases, and his associates were reportedly seen during the rally.

2500 people sought shelter in Nalhar Mandir

Thousands of people who came to participate in the rally sought shelter in police stations and temples in Nuh. 2500 people including women and children sought shelter in Nalhar Mandir near Gurugram. Police advised people not to leave their homes. Four vehicles and a shop were set ablaze by a mob in Sohna, a neighbouring area of the Gurugram district, after news of the clashes in Nuh, a Muslim-majority area, spread. The police fired tear gas at the attackers. The assailants pelted stones at the police. Last night, more than a thousand policemen were deployed including from nearby districts to fight the violence. The conflict has also spread to Faridabad and Palwal districts.
