THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is growing dissonance in the CPI camp over the Maranalloor acid attack case. According to CPI top brass, the suicide of the acid attack accused Sajikumar has tarnished the party's image among the populace.
The district executive meeting held yesterday in the presence of Minister G R Anil decided to demote the district executive member N. Bhasurangan to the party constituency committee. Bhasurangan's name was entangled in the crime as the party found his endeavors resulting in a bitter feud between the accused and the acid attack victim. The committee earlier decided to remove him from all elected positions but later eased the punitive steps.
The executive also decided to remove another district executive Valappil Radhakrishnan from the charge of the Kattakkada constituency committee. According to reports, Bhasurangan turned emotional while explaining his version of the story. District Assistant Secretary Pallichal Vijayan came forward in support of Bhasurangan.
“We fought the congress, BJP strongholds to bring CPI in the forefront of power. We also took the power of cooperative society in my leadership. Transaction worth Rs 18 crore has taken place in the last three months alone. All investors are paid the interest money on time. The current allegation should be viewed as the continuation of what was earlier termed as my unholy nexus with others to defeat MLA I B Sathish in elections” Bhasurangan said.
G R Anil intervened in the discussion to end the debate from turning worse. The district-level meeting is scheduled for August 7th when the party will decide on the need for investigation into the matter.
