NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has questioned how the constitutional system has broken down in Manipur and how justice can be ensured in a situation where law and order has collapsed. The criticism from the Supreme Court is regarding the handling of the Manipur issue. The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, has ordered the Manipur DGP to appear in person.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to take the statements of rape victims in Manipur. The bench verbally informed Solicitor General Thushar Mehta to advise the CBI to wait until the court hears Manipur-related cases in the afternoon. The court is considering establishing a panel to record the statements of survivors in the case. A bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra will hear the case.

Yesterday, the bench had asked both the Central and state governments to provide details about the FIRs filed in connection with caste-related incidents and the measures taken for the rehabilitation of the victims. The Supreme Court stated that the violence against women in Manipur cannot be compared to recent incidents in other states, including Bengal.
