KOZHIKODE: Senior CPM leader T K Hamsa has resigned from the post of Wakf Board Chairman amid ongoing differences with the Wakf-in-charge Minister, V Abdu Rahman. Hamsa said that the decision to resign was discussed with the party, and there were no issues with the department minister. In response to media questions regarding this, he stated that if there were any problems, they had been discussed with the party.

He became the Chairman on 10 January 2020 when he was 82 years old. The party rule is that one can hold any position until the age of 80, and after 80, it can be extended. Hamsa said that he decided to leave the post because he had also crossed the age limit. He resigned with one and a half years remaining in the post of chairman. Many activities have been done during his tenure as chairman, including the recovery of 144 expropriated Wakf lands. Out of 1091 cases, only 401 remain to be solved. If there is a difference of opinion with the minister, CPM is there to mediate and settle it. He explained that the chairman and the minister are nothing before the party; they are only members.

At the same time, party sources indicate that there were differences of opinion between the two of them. It is reported that the notice was sent on July 18, stating that T K Hamsa would not participate in the meetings called by Minister Abdur Rahman. Hamsa had differences with the minister on many issues regarding the Wakf Board. It also came to light that the Chairman did not participate in any Wakf Board meetings held in the presence of the Minister. This has become a headache for the party, especially with Hamsa's resignation in the absence of any health issues. It is reported that the CPM is considering someone from Samastha for the post of new chairman.
