supermoon

NEW DELHI: In a few short hours, the world will witness an extraordinary celestial marvel - the supermoon. It is reported that two supermoon phenomena will be visible this month, one on Tuesday, August 2 and the other on August 30. A supermoon becomes visible when the moon's orbit is closest to Earth, making the full moon appear larger and brighter than usual. This means the moon will be eight percent larger and 16 percent brighter than normal.

It is uncommon for two supermoons to occur in the same month. In 2018, two supermoons appeared in the same month, but after this event, we will have to wait until 2037 to witness two supermoons in the same month. The supermoon phenomenon will begin in India today after midnight, precisely at 12:00 AM. It will last until 2:41 AM tomorrow. The term 'supermoon' was first used in 1979.
